Passing of A Grandfather

Jordan doesn't even know it yet, but she has lost her Granddaddy. I was thinking of all the things that Don Rudd was and none of them seemed adequate as a single word description; but to my little girl he is granddaddy, and he made the whole world an adventure. He was a Father To Jenny, Andy and Brittaney; A Husband to Phyllis; A father-in-law to me. He was a Scout leader to many; a friend to others, a boss to some, and employee to others. He has done so many things that affect so many people. He has helped raise an entire generation of young men in Winterville.

I don't even begin to know how I will explain to my little girl why her Granddaddy isn't here. I know she will be sad; I don't know how much she will understand. I don't remember anything from when I was 2 or 3. But whether she understands or not, I know she will miss her Granddaddy. His big strong hand and arms could lift her up, pull her along or just swing her. She had him twisted around her little finger, if she wanted to sit in the car and watch DVDs, well then they sat in the car and watched DVDs. For everyone else Don had good and bad traits; but for Jordan, he was perfect; he could be seen through a child's eyes of wonderment.

I remember my camping trips with Don, we had been planning on doing one sometime this spring, but hadn't yet gotten around to it. Sometimes after getting tired out on a particularly steep portion of trail, he would take a break, sit down on a rock and just stare out onto the valley bellow; his face would split into a huge boyish grin; He loved the wonder God created in this world. I'm not a great writer, and I don't know what to say; There are so many things that have ... and have not been. Don was all these things and so much more. We will miss him ... Jordan will miss her Granddaddy.

He always sang this song to his daughter, my Wife, Jenny. Its become somewhat of a tradition in our household... So this is for you Don...

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Awesome Year for a new Connect Group

This year promises to be a year of spiritual growth and renewal. We are starting of the year as newly minted connect group leaders. It is our greatest desire that God will use us to move those we come into contact into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. As it says in Romans 12:2:

Romans 12:2
2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.

David and Brandy Forward have graciously volunteered to be our host couple for this semester. They have a wonderful bonus room for the kids to play in during the meetings, at which we will be providing child care.

Our first meeting is Thursday January 29th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. The Forward's house is located at 127 Boone Trail, Garner, NC 27529 (and for some reason its not on Google maps so try Mapquest) If you are interested in coming, please feel free to get in touch with us via phone(919-661-8409) or email additionally you can see our flier bellow.

This year is going to be awesome and we hope that you'll come and see what the connect group hype is all about! Thanks and God be with you and your family,

  • Josh and Jenny Patterson

Family Update

So 2008 Was a rough year, whose back side we are not altogether sad to see depart. After the AC, Car, Baby, Jenny's Back, and the Microwave all failing in the last 4 or 5 months, we are definitely ready for a bit of a break from things breaking (no pun intended)

Jenny's Back is slowly but steadily healing; as many of you know its just hard not to use your back for a week straight (the prescribed remedy) when you have a 2 year old running around the house. With prayer and as much rest as possible, I am sure that it will heal. Losing the baby is probably the hardest thing that has ever happened to us emotionally, and only time will heal that wound. We are mostly back to a normal schedule of events now, and are "getting on with life."

Our friends have been so helpful and compassionate over the last 6 months as has family. We spent a lot of time with family this Christmas, and it was great to see Jordan spend time with her grandparents, especially the Patterson's since prior to this year they had been on the other side of the country.

Our Baby Has Gone Home Early

So we had our 1st (and last) Baby visit Friday/Monday. I had hoped to post ultrasound pictures and announce to all of you our friends and family that we were having a baby.

Unfortunately I have the sadness of knowing that for whatever His reasons, God has decided to bring our baby home early. After the year we have had, when we found out we were pregnant in early November we were ecstatic. We thought This was God's miracle ending for our year. It isn't.

Friday afternoon (Dec 19th) Jenny began having cramps, so we went to the Dr. They did an ultrasound and we were able to see our baby and hear the heartbeat. They said that a number of things were smaller then would be expected, but that we would just have to wait and see. There was nothing we could or couldn't do that would have any affect they said. We prayed, the only thing we know to do. Sunday morning God took our baby back home. Monday we were back at the doctor and they confirmed it, and talked us through some of our questions etc. According to them, Jenny is healthy, and should have no complications. This is a minor blessing but doesn't really make anything better.

All this year bad things have happened, but God has provided. After each night, there has been morning; I don't know what could be more joyous then this; but I know that God will continue to provide for us and take care of us. I just don't understand how or what.

Jenny is looking for a sense of normalcy, and would prefer to not talk about it at the moment. I ask that you would honor this wish and try to keep conversation to normal topics :)

I know all of you will assist in praying for our family and the plans that God has laid for us. Thank you all for all of your support in this time.

Yes I am a Geek

This year I am not going to let our christmas tree run dry. How to do this? LEDs, Solder and wire! What you ask does that have to do with water in a tree?

Water level detection! By connecting these simple items with some water detection sensor relays I have a nice simple Water Level detector. When the tree is full the Green LED comes on, when its almost empty the RED LED comes on. I added a nice yellow LED to indicate the device was on and powered.

Here is the ornament:

Here is the Schematic:

I will try and add some pictures of the sensor block later.

2 Years Old

Its hard to believe our baby girl is already 2 Years and a day old! Yesterday was the big day and we had a great time. We had a bunch of family over (yes Paul and Angela that means you :P) Jordan had a great time playing with everyone, and she really enjoyed her presents too! I will try and post some of the pictures soon, and perhaps some more enlightening commentary.
