This afternoon, I noticed that my [http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1160/ Tradescantia pallida 'Purple Heart'] has poked up, it seems like this is later than normal, so I thought perhaps we were finally experiencing its zone8+ness but after the last two winters, I feel quite safe in saying this thing is definitely hardy in our 7b climate here in Raleigh NC.

The heavy winds accompanying the massive swarm of tornadoes cracked off 2 of the 5 PVC pipes in the rose tree structure. I am sad, and will have to cut it way back in order to effect whatever fixes I end up deeming necessary. fortunately the main tornadoes missed us; we just got "normal" high straight line winds.

So today we got the bald spots on the front corner covered with dirt and hay. We de-weed'd the whole area under the bench swing, and got all the open areas sprayed down with weed killer. I think we will get the water turned on 2 weeks from now or so... happy birthday!

Most of the Hostas are poking out pretty significantly, and this frost 4 or 5 days ago, may have finally done in the male kiwi, they are looking really really bad! :( The female got hit hard too, but its enough established that it won't be tooo bad.

This past week has seen the emergence of 3/8 of our Elephant Ears. All black runners. The Blue Hawaian, and the Diamond Back still have yet to emerge. The red Cana Lili in the front are both well back sporting at least 3 leaf sets each. The P. Nigra shot well this year, but so far I had only one aborted shoot on the P. Vivax; not sure whats going on there :( Many of my main culms are now going on 4 years and will likely have to be removed next year.
